Alkali Sacaton - Sporobolus airoides

Lovely warm-season native bunch grass, a bit smaller than the more common Deergrass, with lovely highly ornamental flowers that remain attractive after they dry. Feeds skipper butterfly caterpillars. Centers of the grass bunch may be used as nesting areas for beautiful native bumblebees who have lost most of their natural habitat. Cut back to a ball shape in spring for fresh new growth in the warm weather.
